How Effective Is Your Spiritual Practice?

Posted on April 6, 2018 Written by Cara Lumen

How Effective Is Your Spiritual Practice?

Our spiritual practice is not just the time we spend in a specifically focused state of awareness – it’s how we live our life.  It’s the thoughts we think, the words we say, the deeds we do.

Our spiritual practice certainly consists of those specific moments in which we pause to remind ourselves that we are light, when we are embraced in a whole that includes All-There-Is, but our spiritual practice is most evident in how we conduct ourselves.

Our spiritual life is reflected in the degree of our self-love

You can’t understand how to give and receive love until you love yourself.  Sometimes we don’t do that enough, or very well, or at all.  We focus on what’s not working, what we seem to lack, how we come up short when comparing ourselves with others.

Begin to expand your spiritual practice by giving yourself unconditional love. And by accepting it because you are worthy and deserving of it.  Notice the degree to which you approve of yourself, appreciate yourself, and believe in yourself. In your spiritual practice take steps to release your limiting beliefs.

Look and offer gratitude for what you offer the world. We each made an agreement to come into the world to learn a certain lesson and to offer a certain gift.  Focus some of your introspective time on contemplating how you feel about what you bring to the world, how that changes lives and contributes to the well-being of all.

Begin your spiritual practice with unconditional self-love and gratitude for the gift that you are to our world.

Our spiritual life is reflected in our choices

Our “spiritual” choices can range from how well we care for or don’t care for our body suit to what we do to our emotional body through fear and worry and allowing ourselves to feel a loss of power in the midst of chaos.

Use your spiritual time to meditate on upcoming possibilities.  Try them on for size – how they feel, what it would be like to accomplish that particular undertaking, how it would feel to know that person better, to make that change happen.

Use your spiritual time to explore your emotional body and how it feels about the choices you’re making.

Our spiritual life is reflected in our behavior in the world

I spend time in my spiritual practice sending light to the world, the planet, endangered species, the environment, people who are in fear, people who are in hate.  Use a healthy portion of your quiet time to send unconditional love to yourself and to our world.  It will be felt. It will be effective.

Trust that as you raise your own vibration to be more aware of your light-ness, others will recognize that same light in themselves.

Our spiritual practice asks us to immerse ourselves in one-ness

We have to feel our one-ness – with everything. We have to feel our connectedness – with everything.  When you understand that there’s only one energy, and that it includes each of us, you begin to understand how a tug here will affect a place over there and you begin to pay more attention to how steadily you are standing in your own light.

Whether you’re standing under a tree, walking in the woods, or sitting in your favorite meditation chair, the objective of your inward quiet time is to leave behind the confines and restrictions of your bodysuit and experience yourself free floating in the Emptiness That Holds Everything.  Lose your connection with your humanness, lose your identity of self, and experience your authentic identity as One In Source.

Then take that feeling of inner connection out into your world.

Life is an illusion and a dream. Go exploring

Some 95% of our existence is unknown. We live in only a teeny 5% of what’s possible. Think about that!

Another purpose of our spiritual practice is to explore those invisible realms. To move beyond the beliefs and limitations and narrow view of being human and move into the light of our Oneness.  The wholeness and freedom of one light.  Feel it. Know it.  Accept it.

Be mindful of your spiritual connection and expression throughout your day. Develop a conscious spiritual practice and bring that awareness and those feelings back into your restricted body-suit life. During your interactive hours, keep bringing forth the feeling of oneness you experienced in your meditative spiritual practice.

Because everything is one, there is no “other”

I can do a pretty good job of feeling that the animals and plants and the elements of nature are all one light energy with me.  I have a harder time in some one-to-one encounters with fellow humans who have an opposing viewpoint.  I come closer to shifting that when I realize that we are a fellow species on the planet and our well-being is interconnected.  It helps me look for common ground and see us both as illumined light beings.

Can you offer unconditional love?

I can’t yet.  I’m still working on accepting unconditional love directed by me to me.  That’s sort of Unconditional Love 101.

But I want to help the earth.  I want to help us through this chaotic change.  So I do it energetically.

In my spiritual practice and in moments of mindfulness, I send the wholeness of our one light out into the world as a reminder to all who see it and feel it that we are all one.

We are all interconnected. We are all responsible for each other.  We are each of us responsible for the well-being of our entire world!

You.  Me.  Us. We are responsible.  We must be the change.  We must be unconditional love radiating out to everyone and everything.

We can do that.

Up-level your spiritual practice

Realize that your spiritual practice is not just body-suit time spent in meditation, contemplation, ritual, ceremony, etc., it’s how those specific practices translate into our daily thoughts and choices.

If your spiritual life is well focused, so is your life.  Look no further than yourself for the “how” to make the corrections. It all begins inside – with you – and your innate wholeness.

Does Your Path Have Heart?

Posted on April 4, 2018 Written by Cara Lumen

Does Your Path Have Heart?

“A path is only a path, and there is no affront, to oneself or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you. Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. Then ask yourself alone, one question. Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn’t it is of no use.” – Carlos Castaneda

What kind of measuring sticks can we use to see if our path has a heart?

It calls deeply to you. There’s always something you’ve been doing all your life because it’s at your core. It’s easy and natural and constant.  It makes your heart sing when you do it.  It lets you laugh out loud in joy. What is that path for you?  What has been calling you all your life?

You love to do it. You do it often. You do it with deep satisfaction. Expressing this aspect of your journey creates such joy that you can hardly wait to begin to offer it each day.

Your passion for it is compelling.  Your calling is so strong you cannot do anything else.

You experience being in a deep place of service. The path you are on is a gift to others, to the world, to you.  Each time you express this gift, this calling, you feel it touching hearts.

The more deeply you follow the path of your calling, the more fulfilling it becomes.  You become better at walking it.  Better at sharing it.  Better at being it.

Follow your path with heart.

How to Access the Divine Feminine

Posted on March 29, 2018 Written by Cara Lumen

How to Access the Divine Feminine

If the divine feminine is rising, what does it look like, feel like?  I’m a female.  What am I supposed to do?

Stop seeing yourself as men have defined feminine

I’m 85 now.  When I was a young girl, all we were supposed to do was to get married and raise children.  No one said that at 40 you’d be divorced with four children to raise by yourself and no work experience.  No one said, until the Women’s Movement, that you had a choice.

Women began to look at their options.

In the 2016 US election, many older women didn’t vote for the female candidate because they didn’t think a woman could do the job!  That’s because they had never seen themselves as being in broader service in their world. That’s changing with each younger generation.

How you see yourself determines what you allow yourself to do

The first step in embracing the emerging feminine power is to look closely at how you see yourself as female and get rid of all the beliefs and programming that have been placed there by society.

Then, rather than notice how many women are not in positions of power, identify the ones that are and study their path.  Study their methods.  You don’t have to do it the way they did, and you can certainly learn from them, but they’re presenting a version of how to move into power. You can study and adjust it as you take your own upward journey.

Encourage the women around you

Be encouraging to other women. It may be a co-worker, a friend or your own daughter.  It may be an uncertain older woman who needs to push forward a bit. Or it may be you, you who does not think highly enough of yourself to know that you deserve that raise, that equal pay, that promotion, that higher position. Encourage others and accept encouragement for yourself.

What is the Divine Feminine that’s coming into power?

As I watch the old white men in our government posture and strut in the manner of old (I get to say that because that is my age group), I know that there are women everywhere who are adjusting, compromising, realizing, creating new paths that are more compassionate and inclusive.

And no, not everyone will like it.  Change is not always welcome. But women have the ability to be more inclusive, to create the highest good for the broadest number.

Because we care.

And we are flexible.

And we are creative.

To be all those things we have to be willing to explore, to experiment, and to evaluate. And look for the middle ground, the greatest good for the most people.

Become a feminine explorer

An explorer questions everything.  She questions the most fundamental things, like the protection of her food source, the consequences of conscious care of the environment and her part in the well-being of our earth home. And she takes major steps to make certain overall physical well-being is attained.

Then, the feminine explorer looks around at what needs adjusting, what needs fixing, and she looks for the one or two things that will affect the greater whole in the most impactful manner.

She does that.

A good explorer recognizes and understands the overall purpose

Not everyone’s purpose is the same. We are at different levels of survival and that will affect our focus.  If I need food, that comes before any other good deed I might wish to do.

Find the overarching purpose, the best, more impactful purpose and begin there.

Saving the environment would be one. Helping women fulfill their potential is another.  Teaching the world to live in peace yet another.

Find a new way to get things done

Just as technology is challenging everything we know how to do, so we, as women challenging our feminine awareness, must find new ways to express ourselves, to get things done.  That means we must question everything!! Never do something one way because that’s the way it’s always been done.  Question and evaluate and become innovative in everything you do.

Think about this.  A future where the ocean rose because of global warming, the coastlines disappeared, technology disappeared, nothing permanent could be built because there was no way to get metal…you get the picture.  Take it all away and start at the survival level.  The hunter-gatherer level. Where would your stat?

Food and shelter.

I don’t know the numbers, but how are we doing on creating enough food for the world’s population?  We know global warming is real.  What do we need to change in our thinking about housing?  And consumption? And the size of our families? And…

Question everything.  Look at it from a survivor’s viewpoint and lighten your footprint on the planet. Then help others lighten theirs.

Create a woman’s world rather than compete in a man’s world

I have no idea what a woman’s world would look like, but I do know that even women entrepreneurs are trying to do business the way men entrepreneurs are doing it. I don’t know what needs to be improved or changed, but I bet if we, as women, stopped to approach our business from the core of our femininity, it would look different.

That means we still need to adjust to what already exists. It means that we get to question every step and explore and experiment to see if we can find a better or a different way.

I thought I was going to write about the qualities of being feminine. But I see that I’ve written about questioning our personal beliefs about what it means to be feminine – what we can and cannot do, what we are capable of and where we realistically need the skills and physical strength that men bring.

This is not about exclusion. It’s about empowerment.  Empowering yourself to believe in yourself, to make up your own rules and standards and live by them.

It’s a bit scary if you’ve never done that before, but there’s no time like the present to try.

Do not listen to what the men around you tell you that you are or even the way they show you how they see you.  We have not even begun to know what we’re capable of.  And we won’t know until we try and support each other and learn from each other as we walk this new path together.

As explorers.

As discoverers.

As leaders who re-structure for the highest good of all.

Encourage the feminine within us to shine our light upon the path of others as we walk beside each other in service.

Build on the Distance You Have Come

Posted on March 27, 2018 Written by Cara Lumen

Build on the Distance You Have Come

“You can only progress by building on the distance you have come.”
– Everyday Tao, Ding Ming Dao

Where are you?  How far have you come?  Where do you want to go?

Before you move forward, examine where you are. What are your strengths, your gifts, your talents? What have you learned that can become a new foundation to build upon? What recently discovered awareness will open new doors?

Look at what’s missing.  What do you need to acquire before you move forward?  It may be in the form of knowledge, it may be a skill, it may be self-awareness.  To get from here to there, what needs to change within you?

Change that.
